Drug Resistance Strategies Project (DRSP)

Training

Like any curriculum, the designers of keepin’ it REAL expect it to be taught a certain way. We realize that many people do not implement prevention curriculum as originally intended, even though the changes may reduce the effectiveness of the program. To make sure that the program works as well as possible for your students, we offer training to help you learn about keepin’ it REAL. Professional trainers provide a one day training session either at Penn State (University Park) or, through prior arrangements, at a location of your choice.

What does training do? First, it explains the philosophy and research behind keepin’ it REAL and how the curriculum works. keepin’ it REAL is a 10-lesson, multicultural, narrative-based, interactive curriculum. It uses in- and after-class activities including role plays and student developed videotapes to provide role models and examples of substance use resistance. In training, you will learn about these features. Second, the training will give you a chance to familiarize yourself with and work through the lessons to increase your confidence when you teach them to students.
